Camp Staff: Traveling From Across the Globe

Summer’s here, school’s out and we’ve all got camp on the brain! Over and over we hear that one of the best parts of camp is also its most essential: the staff. Today we’re starting a two-part blog where we showcase some of the incredible young women who help bring camp to life. To kick it off, we’re highlighting a selection of camp staffers who live outside Washington, yet make the trek to be a part of the Girl Scout summer camp experience.

Camp Name: Bluey
Girl Scout Camp: River Ranch

Where’s home? Melbourne, Australia
How long have you been coming to camp?  This is my 4th summer on staff
What’s your favorite part about camp? EVERYTHING!
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? That I believe in Fairies and playing outside is a legitimate profession!

Camp Name: Zsofia (No camp name yet!)
Girl Scout Camp:
 River Ranch

Where’s home? Budapest, Hungary
How long have you been coming to camp?  It is my 1st year as staff
What’s your favorite part about camp? I would like to work with horses or around the stable, so it is my favorite part of the camp.
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? I think these girls would like to get experience in something different far from the city. Enjoy nature, go hiking, and try out many funny things.

Camp Name: Peppermint
Girl Scout Camp: Robbinswold

Where’s home?
 Northampton, MA
How long have you been coming to camp?  4 years as a camper, this is my 2nd on staff
What’s your favorite part about camp? Singing camp songs
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? It’s a lot harder to find chances to go on adventures when you get older, so take a chance! Go windsurfing or climb a mountain!

Camp Name: Megan (No camp name yet!)
Girl Scout Camp: River Ranch

Where’s home? Avenel, Australia
How long have you been coming to camp?  This is my 1st year attending a camp
What’s your favorite part about camp? I don’t yet have a favorite part but I really look forward to meeting new people.
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? I am from England but now live in Australia; I am in my gap year in between school and university and am very excited about coming to camp.

Camp Name: Mountain Mary
Girl Scout Camp: St. Albans

Where’s home? Cullowhee, North Carolina
How long have you been coming to camp?  I’ve only been to St. Albans as a counselor once since I live across the United State. I’m excited to return though!
What’s your favorite part about camp? My favorite part about camp is getting to play and do fun activities with my campers in the great outdoors. I love doing the nature hikes and swimming in the lake too!
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? If you end up with me as a Counselor y’all are going to have so much fun!  I want my campers to get the best experience at camp they possibly can.

Camp Name: Fire Fly
Girl Scout Camp: River Ranch

Where’s home? Sycamore, Illinois
How long have you been coming to camp?  I’m brand new to Camp River Ranch!

Where’s home? Reading, England
How long have you been coming to camp?  This will be my 2nd year as staff
What’s your favorite part about camp? I love all of it but I would have to say the SINGING!
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? Camp is going to be filled with lots of fun and exciting activities, especially on the waterfront.

Camp Name: Jessica N. (No camp name yet!)
Girl Scout Camp: River Ranch

Where’s home? St. Joseph, Missouri
How long have you been coming to camp?  This will by my 1st year as a staff member

If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? To get ready for a summer to remember and lots of fun activities and new friends!

Camp Name: Rose
Girl Scout Camp: Robbinswold

Where’s home? Bend, Oregon
How long have you been coming to camp?  This is my 9th year as a staff member and my 2nd year at Robbinswold
What’s your favorite part about camp? It‘s so hard to pick just one! My favorite PARTS of camp are the diversity of campers and staff that I get to interact with on a daily basis. My other favorite part of camp is the opportunity to make someone’s day better by making a complete fool of myself.
If you could tell campers one thing, what would it be? I want the campers to know that Robbinswold is THE COOLEST place ever to spend a day, a week, or if you are lucky enough, the whole summer. You can have fun, make friends and be yourself! I LOVE CAMP!

Keep tuned for the second part of this blog series where we’ll profile camp staff from across Washington!
