Girl Scouts Give Back: the McKenzie Harris Story

We are always impressed by how our Girl Scouts use their cookie money, but this cookie season we were blown away by the support for one of our local Brownies: McKenzie Harris.

On New Year’s Day, seven-year-old McKenzie and her family were in head-on car accident. The collision left her paralyzed from the neck down. McKenzie and her family were facing a long road to recovery, along with thousands of dollars of medical bills and a big list of needs (including a special wheelchair and retrofitting their entire house) before they could bring McKenzie home.

This time of year, visions of sugar plums frequently dance through our heads. What perfect timing! Kylee Kitchens, a soloist for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, is dancing her way through the Nutcracker! It’s probably every little girl’s dream to be a ballet dancer, and Kylee is one of the few (and lucky) dancers who gets to dance professionally for one of the country’s most acclaimed dance companies.

A Sweet Success for Girl Scout Troop 40392!

sweetiepiesWhen most people think of sweet treats offered by Girl Scouts, they think of cookies. And though cookies are certainly an integral part of the unique programming Girl Scouts offers, it’s not the only sweet part of this organization.

Supporting and recognizing girls in their efforts to take an idea and see it to fruition is an important part of the Girl Scout experience. Helping girls develop the courage and confidence needed to reach their full potential is part of the Girl Scout mission! Whether through participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program, a destinations trip, the Gold Award or community service, girls learn how to expand their horizons by trying new things.

Making pies is just one of those ways.
