Last Thanksgiving, residents at the Cascade Park Vista assisted living facility stood waiting in the lobby, looking toward the front door.
Although it was the holiday, they weren’t spending it with loved ones—some didn’t have any family visitors coming at all.
But they didn’t have to wait long before Girl Scout Emily Schneider—all red hair and smiles—walked through the door with her very special fuzzy friend: Charlie, the therapy dog.
The dynamic duo was here for a holiday visit!
It’s back-to-school time again! And for thousands of kids and teens across western Washington, that means it’s back to science class … even if it’s not everyone’s favorite subject.
This is especially true for girls: only 14% of girls say they want to become scientists.
But this year, fourth and fifth graders in the Edmonds School District will be using something new to explore science, technology, engineering and math: special STEM Kits created by Gold Award Girl Scout Jessica Dyck.
“Science has always just clicked for me,” says Jessica. “I’ve always loved puzzles and how things work together, and I wanted to find a way to share my love of science with others. I wanted to help students understand the magic behind science.”
The first remarkable thing you need to know about Natalie Ramsey is that she is committed. She’s committed to her school, her family, athletics and her community.
The second thing you need to know is she’s busy. If she’s not off at a soccer game or track meet, she’s doing something with her church youth group, tutoring someone in math or is involved in official National Honor Society business.
The third thing is that, no matter how busy she may be, Natalie is, and always has been, a true Girl Scout. Read more
